Chapter 1 Summary, by: Kaycee

In chapter 1, Fern gets up early and finds out that some baby pigs were born. Her dad was going to kill the smallest pig, a runt, but Fern stopped him. She told her Dad that he shouldn't kill something just because it was small. So, her Dad gave the baby pig to Fern, and she had to feed it with a bottle. Fern saved the pig and now she'll have to be in charge of it. She named it Wilbur.
